Tips for Telesales
Tips for Telesales
Telesales forms a huge part of selling and marketing our products and services.

Admittedly, telesales can be a dreading job if you're just going through the motions and are compelled to reach a certain target every day, but telesales can also be an exciting experience when it's done right.

Here are a few useful tips for telesales people:

1. Know your product. Do not accept that your in-house product training will be enough to get you started. Read up about your product and compare it to similar products on the market. Write down and memorise the beneficial aspects of your product. Also read up on your company's history, philosophy, customer reviews/testimonials and industry ratings.

2. Keep on asking questions to your authorities until you are happy that you truly believe your company's product is the best and absolutely worthwhile to sell.

3. Make sure you understand the selling procedures.

4. Practise your script. Read it out loud, record it and listen to it until you are satisfied that you yourself would be happy to listen to this sales talk.

5. Express confidence. If you are well prepared and you believe in your product and company, your tone of voice should be one of authority. It will put customers' minds at ease

6. Convey the message that your client is talking to a leader. People like to listen to a leader.

7. Practise effective communication skills. Learn to listen respectfully. Speak slowly and clearly. If you have to speak in a language that is your second language practise in front of a mirror until you really get the hang of it. Avoid using too many space fillers such as "ah, um and hmm". Be yourself, do not sound too rehearsed as the customer might feel his missing out on a real experience.

8. Stay positive and put a smile in your voice. Do not take a "no" as a personal rejection - rather see it as a practise round.

9. Empathy is an essential skill for a telemarketer. It is the only way to reassure your client that you have been listening and do understand his or her needs. Quality relationships require perceived responsiveness between individuals. Empathy portrays an understanding by using positive responses and acknowledgement.

10. Enthusiasm creates a positive atmosphere: it is both contagious and helps break down resistance.

11. Prepare yourself with the view that your product might help your customer with challenges that he experiences. Bear in mind that you both can benefit from the sale.
