Top 5 Tips for Receptionists

https://www.stafftraining.co.za/blog/top-5-tips-for-receptionists

There are dozens of sites out there with hundreds of tips for receptionists – we've compiled a list of our top five.

1. The number 1 tip we can offer is to have a positive attitude, be courteous and nice. When you might not have the answer having the right attitude usually makes up for it.

2. Tip 1 is not always going to fly, however. So, what you need to do is make sure you've got all the info you need close at hand. This will be things like co-workers' phone numbers, vendor info, etc. Create a spreadsheet with this info for easy reference.

3. Answer the phone with a standard greeting and use your name. Be sure to get the caller's name and make 100% sure of its pronunciation. Put callers on hold and direct calls politely.

4. Never say, "XYZ isn't part of my job description." Say it more than once and you'll soon find you don't have a job description.

5. Dress appropriately. You say so much by the way you dress, so send the right message right from the start. Never wear clothing that is too baggy, too tight or suggestive. Dress professionally.

Going the extra mile is what will get you recognised as an exceptional receptionist, so when you've got nothing to do find something to do. Help out the managers and other staff where you can and accept that all of this MUST be done with a genuinely positive attitude.
