We are Accountable for our Happiness! - [website] Email Print

“Your beliefs become your thoughts, your thoughts become your words, your words become your actions, your actions become your habits, your habits become your values, your values become your destiny!” Mahatma Gandhi.

This profound observation has been repeated many times in different formats by different people. But the basic truth remains the same.

Our attitude to ourselves and life dictates our success. Simple as that!

I know this sounds harsh, but it’s a fact. Our personal success, both relationally and in our general advancement through life, are inextricably interlinked. The common threads throughout are how we think, what we verbalise, and how that influences our behaviour, which in turn impacts our value system and ultimately our emotional well-being.

There is a methodology that links all of these aspects: it’s contained in the universal concept of emotional intelligence.

If we define success as a comfortable level of personal contentment, and I certainly do, we have to understand that this is a state of which we ourselves are the architects.

Bearing this in mind, it’s imperative and unbelievably empowering, to know that the power to influence our destiny remains within our personal control.

Emotional intelligence is wonderfully elastic – it has the potential to grow within us all life-long. Unlike IQ, (which some contend is set at birth).

We need to be open to change and able to grasp and recognise opportunities for growth with the full knowledge that these can often be somewhat painful. This emotional resilience is closely linked to our ability to harness the skills which comprise emotional intelligence.

Who among us doesn’t want to feel ‘pretty OK’ within themselves and in their interactions with the others and the world in general? I’d hazard a guess that there are some who simply don’t have the emotional intelligence to envisage a way of being that is so much more comfortable than the one for which they have prematurely settled.

For the rest of us, attitude impacts altitude, so actively seek out the skills which will facilitate embracing the myriad opportunities that will be brought across your path as you move through this life…

Book your place in our Emotional Intelligence training in Cape Town, Johannesburg, Limpopo, Durban or Port Elizabeth in order to acquire this skill.
