Everybody is a Genius

Everybody is a genius
Everybody is a genius
It was Einstein who said, "Everybody is a genius. But if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life believing that it is stupid."

This has to be one of my all-time favourite quotes, particularly when you look at it in a business context.

Look around your department at the people you work with every day. Now, you might hold them all in high esteem, believing each one in his or her own way to be a genius, but who are we kidding?

The problem is that we tend to hire people to do specific jobs, disregarding their unique talents and the skills they bring to the table because it falls outside of their job spec. These people get stuck into their routines and plod along, never really making the impact that they could if they were just given the opportunity to spread their wings.

This is where the Enneagram comes in. By using the Enneagram in our businesses we are able to identify the different groups of personalities we have among us, understand what motivates these people and what drives their behaviour, and recognise the core gifts these individuals bring to the world.

This is why it is essential that our leaders and managers have a good understanding of how the Enneagram works, so that we can create stronger, more productive teams with employees who are far more engaged and invested in what we are trying to do.

Trying to get the big picture together for a new project? Call in a 7 and ask for their opinion. Got the big picture but want to know what potential risks you might not be seeing? Call in a 6 to have a look. Project running behind schedule? Task a 3 with the job and be amazed at what they can accomplish when the pressure’s on.

Knowing and understanding the different groups we have within our departments and teams is half the battle won, all you then need to do is apply this knowledge and watch your team excel.

Join us as we present an extended day of training on the Enneagram and Emotional Intelligence for Leaders in Cape Town, Johannesburg, Durban and Port Elizabeth. Click here to find out more or drop us an email.
