"Having fun doesn't feel like something I should be prioritizing right now." Does that sound like you? I know making time to have fun seems silly or even trivial, considering how much you might have on your plate right now: Meetings, projects, kids, the kids' projects, bills, school, cooking, taking care of your family...Where does 'fun' fit in?!
And how will it help me with EVERYTHING that I need to do?
I hear ya, I do. But wow, the power that joy can hold
... That little boost of serotonin after a good laugh with friends makes you feel good, doesn't it?
To get my point across, I'd like to tell you how making time for fun has had a positive impact on my own life. I am someone who can often take life way too seriously, especially when I'm stressed. Everything and anything that goes wrong, any mistake I make or any misunderstanding can seem like the end of the world and send me into a spiral of negative thoughts, panic and stress. But when I started to make time for fun again, it all started to change for the better...
Maybe you can relate?
Bringing 'fun' back into my life has helped me in many ways
- I don't feel so depressed anymore
- I am kinder to myself
- I have more confidence
- I am more productive
- I am much less stressed and manage my stress better
This has not only had a good effect on my personal life, but it has also had a great effect on my professional life- I feel so much more focused, creative and productive!
Yes, work and life can be stressful and scary (more often than not since Covid-19 came into the picture), but it is so important that we look after ourselves. And having fun and staying healthy has a lot more in common than you might think.
Some benefits associated with fun
- Reduced stress
- Improved ability to cope
- Energy boost
- Improved concentration and memory
- Serotonin (which regulates sleep patterns, your mood and more)
The benefits of having fun only improve with time and that's why we need to make it a habit... Make it a habit to find time to do the things you enjoy and spend time with people who make you happy.
, you don't have to wait to have fun 'someday'. You don't have to wait until you've reached goal X or made your first million or orchestrated your musical masterpiece...
