When it comes to productivity, knowing how to spend our time effectively and wisely should be one of our top priorities! So what strategies and habits can we implement that supports our productivity and helps us manage our stress at the same time?
1. Prioritise your tasks.
We suggest using the the Urgent/Important Matrix, also known as the Eisenhower Matrix. This tool helps you look at urgency and importance to determine the priority of our tasks.
2. Get sunlight in the morning.
Exposure to sunlight is thought to increase the brain's release of a hormone called serotonin, which is linked to our mood. Sunlight in the morning also helps us regulate our cortisol, which is our stress hormone... So, take 5 and get some rays.
3. Make use of a productivity tool to manage your tasks.
We recommend Trello, it helps you set up your to-do lists, engage with team-members and manage your work-flow and task tracking. We use it as a team, and we love it!
4. Limit your Social Media time.
We've all been there, mindlessly scrolling and before you know it- time has just flown by... Social media is not supposed to form part of your work day, we all know it, but with many of us working from home it is quite easy to get lost in it while we take a lunch break. Don't let your time or productivity go wasted!
5. Get moving
Going for a walk after work has done wonders for my stress. Don't feel like going for a walk? Give your body a good stretch... So many of us are sedentary for the majority of our workdays, getting our body moving is not only beneficial physically, but also mentally- clear your mind, get your steps in and breathe in some fresh air!
It is so important to communicate your workload and your needs with your team and/or manager. If you are already feeling stressed and your plate is full, communicate that. Don't take on more and end up completely burnt out, making mistakes or missing deadlines. This will cost you more time in the end and add a LOT of stress... And remember, ask for help when you need it- teamwork makes the dream work!
