"When we are no longer able to change a situation, we are challenged to change ourselves." -Viktor E. Frankl
Firstly, let us quickly explore
what Personal Mastery actually is and why it has been recognised as such an important skill.
• Personal Mastery is our
ability to realise that life, people and situations are multi-faceted and that our opinion and vision is not the be all and end all of any situation.
• Personal Mastery allows us
to make space and allowances for all these facets, incorporating or discarding them after additional thought and analysis. In other words, we adapt.
• Personal Mastery allows us
to recognise that it is our reaction to a situation or person that will determine the outcome, rather than the circumstance itself.
• And finally Personal Mastery is
the ability to maintain a personal vision and balance that allows us to stay fully fueled whilst negotiating our life path.
Our number one tip for you today is thus as follows:
Be open to the possibility of change!
If you are not getting the results you want, it may be because you have no control of the situation or the people involved; influence where you can and if you cannot, your only options are to either adapt your expectations, accommodate the situation or people, or walk away. In all cases change is necessary.
If you are wanting to improve yourself, a situation, or an outcome, be prepared for the discomfort that comes with that improvement.
As you can see
all of the above needs a good understanding of your own strengths and weaknesses, a good understanding of the other person or people, a good understanding of the situation and a good understanding of the best desired outcome. All of this understanding comes only through being mindful, present and in the habit of reflecting.
In other words, take control and accountability. The journey of Self Mastery and Accountability is without a doubt one of the biggest gifts you can give yourself...
