Not So Blue Monday - [website] Email Print

Picture this, it's Sunday evening and you're sitting on the couch watching television. You've had a great weekend, spent time with friends, had a braai or perhaps you took some time for yourself with Netflix and a pizza. Then suddenly, in the middle of the Carte Blanche episode, it sinks in... Tomorrow is Monday!

UUUGH!!!

I ask you now.. how did Monday get such a bad rep? Yeah, I know we're heading back to work and returning to the hustle and bustle that is our 'work week'. I get it, we're back in our stress zone... But still, I can't help but wonder if Monday seems extra dreadful because we pre-empt the 'dread'?

I see it on Social Media, I hear it in conversation (even those I have with myself), the general feeling is that Mondays are sucky!

There are two quotes I'd like to bring to your attention now. The first is quite a popular one by Buddha: "We are shaped by our thoughts, we become what we think. When the mind is pure, joy follows like a shadow that never leaves"

And the second is by Norman Vincent Peale: "Change your thoughts and you change your world"

It's fact that our thoughts are extremely powerful, they can shape how we see things in our everyday life, in one of my earlier blogs I referred to the yellow-car saying (think about a yellow car and you'll see yellow cars everywhere).

Perhaps we should take better care of our thoughts and how we view Mondays?

Instead of saying:
- Mondays Suck
- Time to get back to the grindstone
- I hate Mondays

Change your mindset to:
- Mondays are for fresh starts
- New week, new opportunities
- Another opportunity to work on my goals and smash them!

Now I'm not saying Monday's have to suddenly start being your favourite day of the week, because let's face it- that will always be Friday! But I challenge you to start practicing mindfulness and even gratitude when you wake up on Monday morning, and see how it sets the tone for your week.
