First Names Last

You have a name – make them remember it!

Hello, you are speaking to Mari-Ann from Ultimate Logistics Unlimited, how can I help you?

On the face of it this seems like a good telephonic greeting, doesn't it? The receptionist has told the caller what her name is, has assured him that he is indeed calling Ultimate Logistics Unlimited, and has asked him how she can help. Great.

The caller's response, however, was probably, "Sorry, who am I speaking to?"

The reason for this is that it takes us a second or two to register that a phone has been answered and we therefore only catch the end of whatever has been said, leading to the inevitable "Excuse me?" that is to follow.

To avoid having to repeat yourself call after call answer the phone simply and in one fashion only, like this:

Good day (or good morning/afternoon) thank you for calling XYZ… (which gives the caller a second to register) you are speaking to…

Putting your name at the end of the sentence ensures that it sticks in the callers mind, go on, try it!
