There are certain apps that every BlackBerry owner should have, like BBM and Facebook, but Smart Alec thinks he's found some of the best free apps out there that you might not have come across. All these apps are available freely from the BlackBerry app world.
The obvious bunch:
BlackBerry Messenger - Naturally this app tops the list. With the ability to send messages, songs and pictures this app makes your BlackBerry a whole lot more social.
Twitter - Tweet to your heart's content with this useful little app.
Facebook - All your feeds, access to your messages and real-time notifications of, uhm, notifications.
WhatsApp Messenger - Like BlackBerry Messenger, but for all your other contacts (the one's with smartphones, anyway).
News24 - Get all the latest news from SA, Africa and the world as well as a three-day weather forecast from this app.
The not-so-obvious bunch:
ScoreMobile for BlackBerry - Keeps you up to date with all the fixtures, scores and standings of your favourite sports teams. This app will send you a notification before each game that you have selected (so you'll never miss another game) as well as real-time notifications of goals, red cards etc. (Does not, however, for reasons unknown to me, support rugby.)
Advance OS and LED - Allows you to customise the colour of your LED according to application (e.g. blue for Facebook, green for WhatsApp, red for missed calls), as well as by contact, so you can see who's contacting you at a glance.
Google and Google Map apps - If you don't already have these, get them. Now featuring voice search options.
AccuWeather - With a twelve-day weather forecast, wind readings, min/max temperatures and all sorts of health and outdoor forecasts this app is great for people on the move.
