We’re living in the internet age, and it might all seem like cat pictures, memes and the Kardashians to you, but in amongst all the time-wasting nonsense are a few gems, some of which might actually end up saving you some time (presumably so you can go back to looking at cat pictures).
1. Google Keep
Keep is an app from Google that resembles a diary, except it’s a LOT more than that. Keep syncs on your phone and desktop, allowing you to take notes on the fly, add items to your shopping list from your desk, and schedule appointments as and when they come up. Save web pages in Keep for reading later, set a reminder to email John when you get to the office (it’s location-based too), and do this all simply by speaking to your phone. The future is now.
2. Google Now
(Ahh, Google. Taking over the world one app at a time.)
Google Now is the (somewhat creepy) app you activate on your phone and then forget about, and then find yourself in a week wondering how you’ve lived without it for so long. It LEARNS, you see...
Add the Google Now widget to your home screen and in a little while it’ll start recommending websites to you based on what it thinks you’ll like. At home time your phone will tell you how much traffic you can expect on the way and the status of packages you’ve ordered will somehow find its way onto your homescreen. The ever-helpful Google Now will read your messages and emails looking for appointments you’ve made and remind you of these as well, so as long as privacy (or the fear of this app gaining sentience) isn’t an issue for you, knock yourself out!
3. The Microsoft Office Suite
Last on our list, and far less shady, is the Office Suite, which brings Word, Excel and Powerpoint to your mobile. Optimised for your touchscreen device the Office Suite ensures that no report or presentation misses its deadline, and for those of us with waterproof phones the dream of jotting down our shower thoughts has finally become a reality. What a time to be alive!
