3 Ways to Boost Your Motivation - [website] Email Print
Published: 2nd of Dec 2022 by: Staff Writer

It's that time of the year. The fatigue has hit, stress levels are high and motivation might be low. At this point many of us have one thing in sight: Holiday!

But before we can sit back and relax, spend our days at the beach or fire up the braai with family friends, we still have some work to do... Depending on when your organisation closes for the Festive Season, you might still have two or more weeks left.

So, how do we stay motivated?
Below we've included some "motivation-hacks", try them out:

1. Review your goals

Take the time to check in with yourself and your goals. Are your goals still relevant or is it time to redefine them? If you have not yet set goals for this month because you don't deem it necessary, then please reconsider. Goals are a great way to guide our focus...

When you set a goal, it is usually (hopefully) followed by a plan. How will you achieve this goal? What needs to happen or be set in place to achieve this goal? Then you're ready to take action... There is nothing quite like setting a goal to get the 'motivation-juices' flowing again!

"Setting goals is the first step in turning the invisible into the visible." - Tony Robbins

You can expect to see and feel a boost in more than your motivation, your productivity will also benefit.

2. Visualization

Our brains are incredibly powerful tools, tap into this power by visualizing your day. See yourself reaching your goals, ticking off your to-do list, visualise your success. You can do this every morning when you wake up, it helps you to stay connected with your goals... No use in working hard and getting so engulfed in work and what needs to get done that you forget where your motivation lies.

"People often say that motivation doesn't last. Well, neither does bathing - that's why we recommend it daily." - Zig Ziglar

3. Fill your cup

You'll always struggle with motivation if you don't take care of yourself. You can't pour from an empty cup, so pay attention to your needs.

A fatigued body and mind won't have the energy to focus or tackle a task head on the way a well-rested one would... The same goes for you being stressed out or feeling depressed/anxious. You cannot expect to feel motivated and inspired when you are not taking care of yourself!

So please:
- Get enough sleep
- Drink enough water and nourish your body
- Do things you enjoy
- Take a walk to get the endorphins flowing
- Meditate
- Read a book your listen to your favourite songs

A gentle reminder that we all struggle with motivation at some point, so don't be too hard on yourself. It's the way you respond that matters... Will you take steps to get your groove back or will you concede defeat?

"The greatest discovery of my generation is that a human being can alter his life by altering his attitudes." - William James
