12 Medals? Pah!
South Africa will walk away from the 2012 Summer Olympic Games with a total of six medals – three gold, two silver and one bronze – pushing us into 24th place overall.

But what was that about SA having a target of 12 medals?

Before the 2012 Olympic Games began South Africa set a target of a minimum of 12 medals to be won - but was this goal just a bit too ambitious or did SA simply fail to deliver?

Personally I felt Team SA performed very well - yes we may not have attained 12 medals, but there were some amazing displays by South Africans that should by no means go unnoticed.

I'd also like to point out that while the South African athletes I saw for the most part performed well, I was left wondering after many events, "But where the heck were the South Africans?"

According to the Olympics website there were 133 South African athletes competing at the Games (many of these will form teams, just how many I'm not sure), but compared to the most successful countries, like America (who must have taken part in nearly EVERY event) and China, that number is very low.

Considering the competition South Africa was up against at these Games I have to say in reality the target of 12 medals was just too high, and most of our athletes performed as well, if not better than any of us could have expected.

So well done Team SA, we're proud of you!
