One of Those Days

When procrastination is no longer an option

You're having one of those days where you just can't find the energy to get things done but can't afford to procrastinate any longer, what do you do?

We all have those days where we just don't feel like getting down to work. It happens. For some more than others… But sometimes there really is no time for procrastination and in the back of your mind that little voice is saying, "You've got a deadline coming up" or "It's been 45 minutes and you're still staring at that computer screen," and you realise that stalling any longer could be bad for your job - so now's the time for work.

But how, you ask? We'll show you…

To help you get into the right frame of mind for work, and we realise that this is probably going to sound lame, try giving yourself a pep talk. Seriously. Telling yourself what you want to get done and why you want to do it can help get you motivated to, yup, you guessed it, actually get it done!

Something else we quite often advise is to tackle the most difficult (terrifying) tasks first, because everything after that becomes a piece of cake. Unfortunately we tend to do things the other way round and start by crossing off all the easy stuff on our to do list, leaving us feeling like we've really achieved something until we look at what's left to do….

Another great trick if you find yourself procrastinating is to get up and go for a walk. A short walk, mind you, we don't want you wandering off. But clearing your mind before returning to your work can give you a fresh perspective on how to proceed with getting the ball rolling, which will lead to a much happier boss and a much calmer you.

Have you got any techniques that get you in the mood for work? Let us know in the comments.
