You Don’t Say?
“Warning: This bag of peanuts may contain traces of nuts.”

People, for the most part, are smarter than we give them credit for. The majority of us don't need to be warned that the roads might be wet when it rains, or that the electric fence might shock us, but still we're warned, and our normal reaction is to laugh, shake our heads and say, "Huh?! You don't say?"

Unfortunately Captain Obvious doesn't limit himself to peanut packets and road signs.

Examples of these seemingly ridiculous statements can be found everywhere from CVs and job applications to sales pitches and presentations. In fact just this morning I got an SMS from my bank warning me to never click on a link in an SMS from them no matter how genuine it looks, with of course a link at the bottom of the message for more information…

Now, after receiving that, I'm not so sure the guys handling my money are completely with it, which is why it's so important that YOU don't make these mistakes too.

If you put "Available for interview" on your CV the person reading it is going to think, "Well DUH!", isn't he? I mean, of course you're available for an interview, you're applying for a job there… It's the same if you say, "References available on request"…

Think before you speak or type and quit spelling out the obvious, your audience and customers will thank you for it.
