The theme I am stuck on at the moment results from my walk through the memories my late dad (who passed away at 91) left behind and I ask myself, do we care?
Do we care that there we are losing or have lost a whole generation of people who carried in their heads and hearts the details of one of mankind's greatest shames? These ‘doddery' old people who we mock and get irritated with and chuck onto the rubbish dump because "what do they know that could possibly benefit us? We know it all!".
Well these worthless old husks who simply complicate our lives lived through hell on earth in order to ensure the world was still around to receive and nurture us. And how we have grown, what miracles we have created and how conceited some of us have become.
We can all benefit from access to the wisdom of those that have preceded us, even if they haven't all earned our respect give them the benefit of the doubt, chuck out what doesn't make sense, but make sure it's ready for the rubbish bin first……
We have the opportunity to learn from people of all ages daily, (my most delightful interlude recently being a chat I had with a gentleman of 86 who was in the process of trying out new things and had had his first taste of calamari the evening before) - all I need is to open myself up and realise just how little I don't know! Am I the trainer or am I the pupil?
