How to manage your stress
How to manage your stress
"It is fine to be committed to work, but our minds need time to recover and our bodies need to move." ~ Annika Sorensen

Stress can interfere with your productivity and lead to physical and emotional health problems. You can't control everything, but you CAN find ways to manage your vocational stress.

Here are a few tips on how to reduce your stress levels:

Reduce stress by taking care of yourself

The better you feel, the better you will be able to handle your stress. Eat healthily and make sure you get enough sleep. Exercise is also an invaluable tool in your efforts to lower your stress levels.

Minimize stress by communicating effectively

Talk to someone who listens and understands you and share with him or her the things that are bothering you. Talking to someone you trust can help lift the burden of carrying around your problems all day.

Decrease stress by organising your day

Plan your daily work by writing down all you wish to achieve that day. Make sure you deal with the most important tasks first. Don't overload yourself; where possible delegate work to your colleagues.

Prioritise your downtime

Take regular 10-15 minute breaks to clear your head. On weekends or your days off make it a priority to do your own thing - have your own space, go to the movies, watch your favourite sports or read a book.

Acknowledge what causes your stress

One of the best ways to avoid stress is to recognise what's actually causing it. Identify what actions precede you getting stressed out, then do your best to handle it.
