... so Staff Training has compiled a list of tips to help you adjust to the changes.
· First off, you should bear in mind that becoming a good supervisor is a process that takes time - you aren't going to learn where you staff's strengths and weaknesses lie in a day, so take it slow.
· Also, be wary of the person who sidles up to you trying to fill you in on everything and everyone at the company, they may have a personal agenda motivating their words.
· When in doubt you should ask your boss, but never ask for information that is available to you or that you are expected to have read.
· Continuously learn - keep watching and listening to everything that goes on around you, ask questions and provide input where possible.
· Don't try to become your predecessor, and at the same time don't emphasise all the ways in which you are different to your predecessor, just be yourself.
· When asking for advice from colleagues make it clear that you are not relinquishing your authority, you are simply gathering additional information before you make a decision.
· When disciplining your staff ensure that you are consistent and fair, your staff will want to know that they are treated as equals while working under you.
