Unfortunately the majority of us (excluding the lucky ones who actually enjoy waking up early) are faced with this reality a minimum of five times a week, so we might as well learn to embrace it, right?
In my experience once you accept that there's no way to make waking up in the mornings a ‘fun' experience, and just get on with it, it becomes a far less depressing part of the day.
I've also found the following tips very, very useful in my quest to not be a complete grump in the mornings…
1. Get up quickly. The shorter you make the torturous experience of dragging yourself out of bed - the better, and the less likely you are of going back to sleep.
2. Set a loud, annoying alarm and keep it out of arm's reach. By doing this not only are you jolted into an upright position in bed as soon as it goes off but you're also forced to actually get up to make it stop. Now if you can just refrain from getting back into bed once you've done that you'll be golden.
3. Go to bed at a decent time. I'd rate winter mornings on good days a solid 4 out of 10. After nights with too little sleep, however, that number drops right down to 1, leaving me unapproachable and quite likely to spit fire at those who do, which isn't a good look on anyone.
4. Get into a routine about it. Try waking up at the same unthinkable hour every morning in the hopes that this triggers your internal clock into a natural rhythm of waking you up. While your mind may never become accustomed to waking early your body just might…
