Staff Training have been operating since December of 2000. We celebrate our 17th birthday this year and we have taken some time out to identify some of our heroes!
Let me introduce you to the first with this article. We will call her Jo-anne.
Joanne is a female HR manager who works in a very male dominated environment
, where production is paramount and the top management quite autocratic. This company was constantly being hampered by strike action, illegal dismissals, poor treatment of valuable staff and high incidences of theft. The industry as a whole has similar challenges, so our client was no different to the rest.
After a year of particularly violent strikes, Joanne was brought into the organisation as HR manager. It did not take her long to realize that whilst she could implement all the correct systems and procedures and that she could cut down on the number of illegal dismissals, through simple IR training, it would be very difficult to change the mindset of the autocratic owner/ managers
. The owner/managers had become accustomed to reaching their production goals using the exact management style that Joanne was keen to moderate.
In addition, a further challenge was overcoming the skepticism of the workforce
, who were clearly not into trusting anyone that had anything to do with management. Joanne’s hurdles were high, yet her belief in the necessary methodology to effect a 180 degree change was unwavering.
Over the last few years, we have seen Joanne effectively manage to gain the trust of the workforce
through great listening, solid action, great feedback and total consistency.
We have seen her struggle to break down the barriers and resistance
from a senior management team one slow inch at a time.
We have seen Joanne implement training interventions
that are well thought out and researched, well planned as well as extremely well implemented; ensuring maximum return on investment.
More than all of the above though, we admire her
for what we are seeing in the company’s workforce.
We are observing delegates, young and old, with new hope, new inspiration, new drive, fully engaged individuals who are taking their careers seriously, producing more than ever before. These individuals are being rewarded for the go forward they now bring.
Over the last few years, our client has grown to be a leader in their industry
and has people knocking at their doors to be part of this organization. For the first time in many years, the company didn’t have strike action last year and it appears that this will be another strike free year too.
