Working With Emotions - [website] Published: 1st of Aug 2011 by: Ms Knowitall
Running an online business has many benefits, including flexible hours, unlimited income potential and the ability to work from anywhere in the world...
... but an online business can only be successful if you leave out emotions when making the decisions.
This isn’t to say that you shouldn’t be emotionally attached to your online business; it’s natural to be, you have a vested interest in your business’s success. But if you start letting your feelings about the business dictate how you run it you’re bound to encounter various problems along the way.
It’s very easy to get comfortable in your routine and the way you run your online business, and as you grow more attached to your way of working you become more reluctant to change it.
Emotionally you may feel the decisions you are making are for the best of the company, but in reality you may actually be hindering the business’s progress by going for the gut feel instead of the logical choice.
You may also find that there are aspects of the job that you feel are being done properly but when viewed objectively aren’t.
Take social networking for example. Social networking is a huge part of generating traffic to your website and essentially generating income, and you may love that you’ve made many contacts and friends this way, but getting too comfortable can make you lose sight of your main goal and eventually become nothing more than a time-consuming break.
But one of the greatest challenges to owners of online businesses is that there is no guidebook enlightening the correct path, and as a result many of the decisions made have to be based on a gut feeling.
This is fine as long as you properly assess the situation in a logical way before making any changes (or deciding to not make any changes), and that you assess the state of your business on a regular basis.
