The end of the year can be a stressful time for even the most laid back workers...
... there are numbers to crunch, deadlines to meet and bosses who are riding us harder than ever, but luckily for us there are many ways to relieve the end of year stress, too.
Stress is the last thing you need when you’re really busy; it slows you down, makes you worry, and if treated incorrectly can just lead to more and more stress.
To avoid this vicious cycle try some (or all, depending on how stressed you are) of the following stress relieving tips next time you feel the pressure building:
1. Find somewhere quite, clear your thoughts and meditate. Never tried it before? That’s okay, even if you’re new to the whole meditation thing the simple act of clearing your thoughts for a while can have tremendous effects on your stress levels.
2. Do some exercise. Go for a jog, run or walk around the block or heck, do a little dance if you must; the point is to get your body moving and your blood flowing. Doing just 20 minutes of exercise per day can improve your mood for as long as 12 hours.
3. Look after yourself. In times of stress it can be terribly easy to forget about your own health and focus solely on the task at hand, this in turn just leads to a stressed out, unhealthy you. Make sure you still eat correctly, get enough sleep and make time for the loved ones in your life.
4. Speaking about loved ones, spending time with family and friends during periods of stress can in itself be the stress reducer you’re looking for.
5. Take a break and get some fresh air. Often this is all we need to come back down to Earth – a big gulp of fresh air and a short walk in the sun, especially if you sit at a computer all day.
Stress can lead to serious health issues, if you’ve been trying these or similar stress reduction techniques to no avail seek advice from your GP.
