What Are You Waiting For? - [website] Published: 15th of Sep 2011 by: Miss Knowitall
Why is it that we tend to put off the really important things until the very last minute?
We know we should have the oil leak in the car checked but something always seems to come up, and by the time we think about it again we’re a mile away from home stuck on the N1 freeway.
The same thing happens at work and we’ve got deadlines hurtling towards us at bone-breaking pace, yet we tackle all the easy, less important stuff first and wonder how we manage to reach our deadlines at all.
Staff Training understands this problem and suggests listing your tasks in a time matrix, enabling you to see at a glance what your most important jobs are and helping you keep on top of them at all times.
Important
Less Important
Urgent
Do this first
Delegate if possible
Less Urgent
Set goals and deadlines
Delegate entirely
Obviously we should be starting with tasks that are both urgent and important, but more often than not we find comfort in doing the easier stuff and our time-sensitive jobs suffer.
Get into the habit of listing your tasks this way as the work comes in and before long you’ll notice what you’re putting off and start shifting your focus where it’s needed.
