The Only Constant is Change - [website]

Why is it that we find it so difficult to change the way we think and adapt to life as it happens instead of sticking to old systems because they used to work?
It was the Greek philosopher Heraclitus who said, “The only constant is change,” and over the years we’ve all seen this to be true, yet for some reason when it comes to the fundamentals, like legislature and law, we are as rigid and immovable as cavemen.

Take for example an American court case currently underway in which a woman stands accused of identity theft and defamation. She created a Facebook account under the name of her ex-boyfriend, a narcotics detective, and posted comments on the page claiming he was high all the time, had herpes and frequently saw prostitutes.

Can you imagine the implications if something similar happened to you?

The Internet is getting bigger everyday; more businesses are operating online, more people are sharing more information, and more companies are using this information as a reference check on potential and current employees.

The Internet is a part of our lives, and the way things are going it’s only going to become more so, so shouldn’t we acknowledge this on a lawmaking level as well?

Shouldn’t we be looking at the possible ramifications our increased online presence might have and making provisions before it actually comes to that?

The only constant is change – and with it, we must change.
