Social media is a great tool for businesses; it opens you up to a whole new way of interacting with your customers and helps you convert your potential customers into actual sales...
...but how do you then keep them interested once they’ve joined your page?

Basically, to keep your fans interested on Facebook you’ve got to BE interesting. This means posting things that are relevant to your audience, things that they are likely to enjoy and want to share.

Luckily for us Facebook shows us the demographics of our users, so keeping track of who we’re talking to is really quite simple. In addition to this you already know one thing all your fans have in common – you – so begin by building on this. Get your fans talking about your product, what they like and what they want to see more of and share your latest offerings and discounts with them first.

The following is a list of dos and don’ts when it comes to using Facebook for businesses:

DO share things your fans will be interested in, be it news articles, quotes, jokes, or the latest move in the financial indicators.

DO post your blog on Facebook (you do have a blog, don’t you?).

DON’T let marketing posts dominate your Facebook wall – people want to know about your business’s latest offerings but not to excess.

When submitting marketing posts DO use a programme like Hootsuite to post generic messages across all the platforms you use (Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Google+ etc.)

DON’T post too frequently, this is one of the main reasons brands are “unliked” on Facebook.

However, DO update your page regularly, don’t allow your fans to become bored.

DON’T post things about your personal life – no matter how depressed you are that your boyfriend left you your fans don’t need to know about it.

DO be active within different communities, get your name out there and provide advice on your area of expertise where you can.

When your fans comment on your content or ask questions, DO be quick with your responses.

DO be neutral, remain unbiased and always be as inoffensive as possible.
