Change your attitude by changing the colours you surround yourself with, here’s how.
Even though it’s not something we consciously think about, colours have a constant affect on the way we perceive people and how they perceive us.
For example, you’re more likely to feel intimidated by your boss when he (or she, we don’t discriminate) is wearing red because that’s the colour we associate with authority, control and power.
(For a list of what feelings or emotions we associate with particular colours click here.)
Armed with this information we can say, “Today I’ve got that meeting with Bob where we’ll brainstorm ideas for the summer collection, purple is a brain-booster so I’ll wear that,” and be sure to be bursting with creative ideas!
Similarly you can surround yourself with orange if you need a pick-me-up. “This color relieves feelings of self-pity, lack of self-worth and unwillingness to forgive. Orange opens your emotions and is a terrific antidepressant.” So what are you waiting for? Orange it up!
Learning to embrace colour in your life can help you balance your moods and make you feel more energised, in control, calm, independent, caring etc. Go on; give it a try!
