Heading for the 4th Quarter - [website]
Published: 12th of Sep 2011 by: Debbie Engelbrecht
As we head for the 4th quarter of 2011, I find myself doing double and triple checks on my goals and targets for the year.
Which have been reached and which are falling behind? While doing this, it occurred to me that us humans can be quite hard on ourselves, but also on others!

Take the Springbok victory over Wales yesterday. There was one point in it. Just one, but it was indeed a victory. Job done. Take the praise and move on to the next game.

The issue with South Africans seems to be that we don’t easily give praise. We are simply never satisfied and the criticism of the “very old crocs” in the “over the hill” team, while the so-called “clown” coach continues unchecked. Whether we talk about sport, politicians, the economy, the schooling system, markets, products or justice, it’s seems to be mostly criticism.

So just for today, I would like to suggest that we take a step back and take the time out to congratulate ourselves on a job (any job) well done, completed, done and dusted, goal reached and achievement notched within the last few weeks. Then and only then, may we move on and accomplish the next on the never-ending to-do list.

And while we are in this “giving” mood, let’s admit it, the Bokke are our team, we love them, we will stick by them and they do have the ability to bring back that trophy. I believe it! Do you?
