Could You Do It? - [website]

Can you imagine benefiting, profiting from the disaster in Japan?
I couldn’t until the other day, but I read an article by Newsbeat music reporter Greg Cochrane about people buying tickets for a disaster relief concert in London and reselling them for as much as double what they initially cost, and that’s got me asking all sorts of questions.

Like, what’s happened to our humanity? Why is everything reduced to personal gain, and how come if there’s no profit involved it’s given no notice?

And to be fair, it’s not everyone, heck, it’s not even nearly everyone, but it should really be no one.

I for one have seen the images from Japan, seen the devastation, the misery and ongoing fear that now lives there, and I don’t think my conscience would let me sleep knowing I’d made a quick buck from all of that.

I think it would quite stubbornly request that I donate the money to one of the many organisations selflessly assisting where they can in that ravaged country, and would then rest easy knowing I had really done my bit.

Let’s hope that’s what happened, shall we?
